Breaking the Barriers: Helping Black Males Achieve Academic Success (October 20, 2011)

Although graduation rates for African American boys in Baltimore City have increased dramatically in the last few years, our work is not done. Educators, parents, families, and the whole community must make a commitment to continue this trend so that the success is true for every child.

At a recent event in Open Society Institute–Baltimore’s Talking About Race series, Ivory Toldson, associate professor at Howard University, and Raymond Winbush, director of the Institute for Urban Research at Morgan State University, talked about what educators, parents and families can do to ensure that these young men succeed.
