During a recent talk, Los Angeles Times Baghdad bureau chief Tina Susman explored how two critical components of a healthy society—truth and trust—are maddeningly elusive for Iraqis (and for news reporters). Susman, a veteran correspondent who has covered everything from the Rwandan genocide to the Michael Jackson trial, discussed the texture of ordinary life in Iraq as well as the overall state of the surge.
